(2:00-4:30) PM: Alan Annand. Jyotish as a Darshana of Psychology

Western astrologers have sometimes dismissed Vedic astrology as inherently fatalistic, lacking the psychological insights that encourage a client to exercise their “free will” without restraint. But we’re all products of nature and nurture, and jyotisha is perfectly capable of assessing one’s psychology, and thus one’s capacity to perform action.

This lecture explores three concepts that constitute a model of human psychology. The first is the manas, the instinctual realm of the limbic brain that registers sensory perceptions (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell) and associates each with raga or dvesha, ie, desire/attraction vs repulsion/detachment. Instinctual biases are the foundation of personality, but can also presage the (physical or mental) health of the client.

The second element is the buddhi, the rational function of the forebrain that engages in analysis, communication and discernment. That intellectual capacity elevates humans above primates, and offers a spectrum of cognitive abilities that may distinguish, eg, a knowledge worker from a manual laborer.

The third element is the ahamkara, or ego, that “I-ness” or self-identity that makes each of us feel like we’re the center of our universe, and that all actions and consequences are of our design and doing.

For each of these elements – manas, buddhi, and ahamkara – there’s an associated bhava, lord, and karaka. And for each of them there’s a proforma for analysis and judgment, the gestalt of which is an understanding of individual psychology.

In this talk, ACG will be introduced for beginners. We will also discuss some unique ACG techniques that can be effectively applied for Jataka, the study of natal horoscopy, to understand how the native’s karma can change in various parts of the world depending upon their birth chart. (5-6:30 PM): Dr. Arjun Pai. Transforming Challenges into Strength: Understanding Planets in Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS)

Jataka Parijata highlights the Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS), or the "death-like position," for planets from Surya to Rahu. When a planet occupies its MKS, it can weaken the houses it governs and disrupt the natural significations (Naisargika Karaka) and elements (Tattwa) they represent. These planetary placements are often feared for their negative impact on a native's life, leading to confusion and apprehension.

This session aims to simplify and demystify the concept of MKS. Together, we’ll explore why planets become weak in these positions and how their challenges can be addressed. We’ll discuss powerful astrological remedies and combinations that reduce the negativity of MKS placements, helping students and practitioners unlock the hidden potential of these planets.

Join us as we transform the way you look at MKS, turning it from a source of fear into an opportunity for growth and balance. Perfect for students and astrology enthusiasts, this presentation offers clear, practical insights you can apply in your astrological journey. You'll learn practical methods to harmonize planetary energies for a more balanced and fulfilling life.

(5-6:30 PM) : Barry Rosen. Secrets of The 8th House: What is There to Be Afraid Of

The 8th house, like its natural counterpart, Scorpio, is a mystical, sexual, transformative place filled with mystery,  surprise, and highly charged energy. Its transits are dreaded, but if we master them, they bring us major life transformations and new light to move toward liberation and freedom.  The 8th house is like the magician’s magical box—anything can be transformed.    While many dread 8th house transits and its dashas, for fear of accidents, divorce or hospitalization, good transformations often happen here. Knowing how to counsel our clients about transformation is essential to take the fear out of astrology.

The 8th house represents the transcendental void we often experience at the deepest point of meditation. It is where we dive into the core of our Divinity, recharge, and emerge deeply rested and refreshed.  It is where we can manifest our wishes as the secret of the 8th house is to desire, transcend, let go, and let the Divine manifest what we want. Hence, the 8th house is a powerful place for wish fulfillment if we are on the spiritual path and know the secrets of manifesting –desiring and letting go.

(7-8 PM): Tulsi Bagnoli. Nimitta & Śiva Svarodaya: Synchronizing with the Pulse of Natural Law

This lecture invites you to learn the art of witnessing and aligning with the pulse of nature, observing its rhythms and cycles to uncover what is being revealed to us. Through the rich convergence of Nimitta (omens) and Śiva Svarodaya (the science of breath), we attune ourselves to the subtle forces that shape our lives.

By synchronizing with this natural rhythm, we connect to the breath of life and creative intelligence woven into the very fabric of the universe. This practice offers profound insight, guiding us to a deeper understanding of the living tapestry that surrounds us.

(8:30-11 PM): Eve Mendoza. The Weight of Words: Jyotish & Psychological Profiling

This is the very topic that caused me to exit Jyotish practice for two years. With my full schedule, I did not fully recognize the weight of what I had been carrying for many years. It required slowing the pace, self-reevaluation and a willingness to fail, to be wrong and to see things are they really are. After much in-depth research and inward-searching,I have come to a clear understanding. In this workshop I will speak openlyabout my own mistakes in hopes that aspiring Jyotishis and students will grasp the parts that are relevant to themselves. We are potentially affecting another person's life with our words and advice. If we are in the state of a Rishi or a real Guru, this may be ok, but many of us may not be in that state.

We will visit the labyrinth of considerations facing us today that did not apply to ancient society and examine many example charts that are commonly misread. Let’s consider the growing need for discretion and respect on behalf of the Jyotishi. Though this may sound like a session on ethics, it has nothing to do with asserting virtue and more to do with realizing how virtue can be the most blinding factor. This presentation will include many helpful examples of charts, misconceptions, the gunas, types of karma and why this is important to understand and the critical role of discernment of what we can see and what we may not be able to see in a birth chart.
